The Fallen Crane

Design and Meaning

Under the Tokugawa house's unification of the realm, the aesthetics, values, and ways of life inherited by noble families across Japan were erased.

If one calls "invasion" by the name "peace," then there is nothing beautiful about that crane.

What is truly beautiful is the symbol of hypocrisy in its fall.

Each feather is individually rendered, distinct from the next. They express not the fleeting "beauty" of pretense, but the beauty of theory — meticulously conceived. A true beauty that dwells in intellect.

This is enshrined as virtue
through the Crest of the Fallen Crane.
